Jopen Jacobus RPA: gold medallist
Jopen Jacobus RPA won a gold medal in the category ‘Traditional Style Pale Ale’. This Rye Pale Ale (5,5%) is brewed with 25% rye malt and has a fruity bitterness thanks to the use of American hops. Jopen Jacobus RPA is named after the former Jacob’s Church. Jopen took over this church and renamed it the Jopen Church Haarlem, a modern brewery, bar and restaurant.
Jopen Doubting Thomas received a bronze award in the category ‘Belgian-Style Strong Ale’. This Imperial Quadrupel (10%) is surprisingly rich in flavour with malt flavours and a fruity character thanks to the American hops. This reddish-brown beer is a genuine winter warmer.
European Beer Star 2016
The European Beer Star gets its high reputation from the 124-strong jury of experts, who assess the beers in a blind tasting according to the same purely sensory criteria as the consumer: colour, smell, flavour, aromatic profile and overall impression. The jury included master brewers, beer sommeliers and acknowledged beer connoisseurs from 30 countries. The European Beer Star Award is given to authentic beers with lots of character. Only one gold, one silver and one bronze medal were awarded in each of the 57 different beer categories.
